A Hospital's Most Successful Campaign in 20 Years

 
 

Impact:

The OH Foundation has used a campaign initiative to propel its major gift program forward in a systematic and sustainable way which will allow for increased post-campaign fundraising from previous years, and it's most successful philanthropy initiative in more than 20-years.

Summary of work:

Major Gift Program Implementation by way of a Campaign initiative over an 18-month period of time; Deliverables: Creation of a prospect portfolio for Executive Director; regular assistance with prospect strategy; talking points and messaging recommendations for other fundraising functions of the Foundation to support major gifts; regular sessions on best practices related to different vehicles and solicitations.


George Philanthropy Group (GPG) has worked with a regional hospital, Oswego Health (OH), on establishing a major gift program to support its current campaign initiative. While the campaign presented an opportunity to elevate the major giving program at this hospital, the program will continue to build capacity and donor-pool-depth for the organization after the initiative concludes.

While the hospital was well-known in the community, the Foundation and its purpose have not been as clearly understood -- beginning individual meetings to expose people to the Foundation's purpose, strengths and opportunities was imperative.

GPG helped build a prospect portfolio of both donors and prospects using a proposal tracking system and worked with the Foundation internal and board leadership on setting strategies for each potential donor. The firm offered example discussions, talking points, and insight around determining potential gift ranges.

As campaign counsel, the major gift program work continued with a monthly campaign steering committee meeting, including board and committee with established roles in prospect movement. Strategy sessions include time discussing best practices around restricted / unrestricted and endowed giving and asks.

As a part of this engagement, GPG has helped guide other key fundraising functions to major gift supporting roles with a relationship-centered focus at the forefront of the Foundation's daily work.
